Richard Compton

Je suis professeur au Département de linguistique à l’Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). Mes domaines d’intérêt sont la syntaxe et la morphologie. Ma recherche porte sur la nature de la polysynthèse dans la langue inuit, en particulier dans les dialectes d’inuktitut canadien oriental. Elles incluent des sujets tels que les catégories lexicales et fonctionnelles, l’incorporation nominale, l’accord verbal, la linéarisation et la formation des mots. Je me pose des questions telles que : Les catégories lexicales sont-elles universelles ? Quelle est la structure interne des mots complexes en inuktitut ?Comment peut-on définir le concept de « mot » translinguistiquement ?
